Jackson Diehl, a Deputy Editor of the Washington Post, recently wrote a
column under the title, “Venezuela's Chávez Fears Caracas Mayor” about Leopoldo Eduardo López, a mayor of Chacao, a district of
Caracas, Venezuela. No evidence is presented in Diehl’s analysis that
supports the claim of the headline.
As
long as Hugo Chavez president, he'll be vilified and targeted. Latin America
is vital to Washington. Venezuela is a key part of it. But America's
dominance is weakening, neoliberal pillage caused it, the Bush
administration accelerated it, Bolivarianism challenges it, so muscular
militarism may replace diplomacy to restore it.
At a time of growing public disenchantment with the major media,
millions now rely on alternate sources. Many online and print ones are
credible. One of the world's most relied on is not - the BBC. It's an
imperial tool, as corrupted as its dominant counterparts.
The New York Times keeps at its appointed mission - attacking the most model democracy in
the region with a clear and purposeful aim - to destabilize, destroy
and transform Venezuela into the alternate model Uribe represents:
uncompromisingly hard right and hugely repressive.
Part of the
magic of the Magic Laptop supposedly found with Colombia's FARC after
its camp was destroyed is that it seems to be revealing more and
more new information every day. But like with any dumb card trick
you’re not really seeing the whole thing.

The Inter- American Press Association (IAPA) holds it's biyearly meeting
in Caracas this week - the first to be held in Venezuela in many
years. But that doesn't mean that the organization hasn't been deeply
involved in Venezuela.
More editorials and OpEds have been written this past year about
Venezuela than ever before, 98% of which are negative, critical, and
aggressive and contain false or manipulated information. We are
therefore led to believe that the Washington Post is promoting an
anti-Venezuela, anti-Chávez agenda.
From
politicians to celebrities, and even on down to your average Joe; when
the political pundits make their mind up about you, all bets are off.
And as Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez can attest, the American media
can be cruel and downright vindictive.

Although President Hugo Chávez
of Venezuela continues to excite fits of hysteria north of the
Rio Grande, Simon Romero of the New York Times (Feb. 9,
2008) wants us to know that Chávez is "increasingly
on the defensive."

When the recent accusations of government-sponsored anti-Semitism are
thoroughly investigated, it is revealed that in the majority
of cases, the strongly anti-imperialist political sentiments of
Venezuelan social movements are erroneously
conflated with anti-Semitism.
